Extension Activity for Media Literacy

As a follow-up of the MOOC "English for Media Literacy for Educators" offered within the Online Professional English Network program and supported by the U.S. Embassy, there was a contest for the "Extension Activity for Media Literacy" lesson plan for the "Advancing English for Media Literacy in Kazakhstan" project participants. 29 lesson plans developed by EFL teachers from Almaty, Atyrau, Kostanay, Karaganda, Kyzylorda, Oral, Petropavlovsk, Turkestan, Shymkent were developed and assessed by the M&E specialists of the project. The themes relate to social media, movies, advertising, cyberbullying, environmental issues, etc.  Teachers designed the extension activity and offer their students to design posters or video considering the key media literacy questions, such as:

- What product am I choosing to advertise?
- Why am I making this ad?
- What creative techniques am I using in this ad?
- What are the obvious messages in my ad?
- What do I want people to think (or feel) about this product?
- What kinds of people will I include in my ad? Why?
