C5+O.N.E. Instructor, Astana

I have participated in many professional development courses, but the C5+O.N.E.Ed program became the longest, most memorable, and most impactful experience for me as a teacher. This program helped me refresh my knowledge of teaching methodology and introduced me to the world of ESP (English for Specific Purposes) teaching in a practical and engaging way.
Each phase of the program was unique and valuable in its own way.
During the first phase, we refreshed our understanding of communicative language teaching techniques, worked collaboratively in pairs and groups online, practiced lesson planning, and became more confident using Google Classroom and other digital tools for teaching. This phase helped create a strong foundation and reminded me how important interactive and student-centered learning is.
The second phase in Almaty was probably the most intensive and unforgettable part of the program. For the first time, all participants met in person, and the atmosphere was incredibly warm and supportive. We built strong friendships and many of us still stay in touch today. One of the most memorable experiences for me was the macro and micro teaching sessions, where we presented lessons to one another and received constructive feedback from trainers and peers. These sessions helped me grow professionally, become more confident as a teacher, and learn how to reflect critically on my teaching practice.
The third phase focused on sharing the knowledge and skills we had gained throughout the program with our professional community. Our main task was to organize two teacher professional development events. I conducted my first event at Secondary School No. 20 in Astana, and the second one online in order to involve even more English teachers from different regions. It was inspiring to see teachers actively participate, exchange ideas, and support one another.

This program became the beginning of many new opportunities and professional connections for me. After completing the second phase, I was hired as an instructor for the C5+O.N.E. program in Astana, and now we are already close to finishing my first group of students. Thanks to the C5+O.N.E.Ed program, I was already familiar with the ESP curriculum, lesson structure, and teaching materials related to economics, which helped me adapt quickly and feel confident in my new role. I am also deeply grateful to our lead teacher, Zhazira Karabalayeva, who was always supportive and ready to help us with any questions.
The program itself was very intensive and enriching. During the course, we completed around 140 hours of General English and 50 hours of ESP classes. We also had the opportunity to visit the World Bank and attend different educational and cultural events at the American Corner in Astana. These experiences allowed us not only to improve professionally, but also to broaden our perspectives and become part of a larger educational community.

Personally, this program gave me new opportunities, valuable knowledge, professional confidence, an inspiring environment, and unforgettable memories. As an English teacher working with both teenagers and adults, I now feel much more prepared to create engaging, communicative, and meaningful lessons for my students.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to American Councils, World Learning, KazTEA, and everyone who contributed to creating and implementing this program. Thank you for your hard work, support, and dedication to English language teachers. We truly appreciate your time and effort and are incredibly grateful for this life-changing opportunity.
