KazTEA, in partnership with the British Council, launched a program targeted at
improving professional skills of EFL teachers based on the TeachingEnglish British Council resources.
240 English teachers in 9 regions of Kazakhstan joined the program and started their online learning on the theme "knowing the Subject", which covers 5 components.
Participants in the program have been understaking an online course "Understanding Language Systems" for two months. Their online training is supported by facilitators of the English Teachers' Association during face-to-face seminars in 9 districts, such as Zharkainsky (Akmola region), Shieli village (Kyzylorda region), Kyzylzharsky (North Kazakhstan region), Borodulikha (Abai district), Saran town (Karaganda region), Zhanaarkinsky (Ulytau region) and Turkestan. Facilitators provide technical and content support for the course. They facilitate discussions and carry out a variety of interactive activities on teaching functional language and grammar forms during workshops and Zoom online sessions.
In addition, 240 English teachers have signed up for the TeachingEnglish Facebook group to participate in webinars and discussions on various language teaching topics.
We are grateful to Linda Ruas - an EL language specialist ,who supports our teachers’ training and shared her tips for teaching functional language using ChatGPT prompts. In her webinar, Linda shared tips on writing instructions for cue-cards to consolidate functional language in dialogues.
The program includes reading additional resources on this topic, which are discussed on the KazTEA forum. You can join the discussion of topics related to creativity or teaching grammar here.
You are to welcome to join the program and improve your professional skills on the theme “Taking Responsibility for Professional Development” and the online course “Making time for research in the English classroom”, which starts in December 2024, here.
