In 2022, the Akmola Region English Teachers Association (ARELTA) gained a grant to implement the Scaffolding Pedagogical University Development Project to improve the level of English language teaching with the participation of 16 universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Public Affairs Section, US Embassy in Kazakhstan, Astana, initiated and sponsor the project.

Project background

English teachers from 16 universities participated in the Pedagogical University Development Project (PUDP) from September 2020 to December 2021. Public Relations and Regional English Language Office (RELO), US Embassy in Kazakhstan, Astana, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan, supported the Pedagogical University Development Project (PUDP) as a multi-stage program.

Project goal

To Modernize English language teaching practices by training English language teachers in modern methods of developing English language curricula in secondary schools, colleges and universities through collaboration with an English Language Specialist in support of the government of Kazakhstan policy in the field of trilingual education.

Phases

Phase 1 - training of trainers from among the teaching staff of 16 universities in an online format with the participation of an English language specialist (English Language Specialist)

Phase 2 - cascade training for teachers of schools and colleges in an offline format.
