C5+O.N.E. Educator workshop
Phase 3
During the 3d phase, follow-on the intensive in-person training in Almaty, the KazTEA staff responsibilities covered:
- Creating and monitoring 24 Teacher Activity Groups (TAGs) for 7 international coaches to facilitate e-learning via Slack.com platform
- Monitoring participation in 6 webinars on logistics and organization of Professional Development sessions and collaboration in ChaiChat channel on teaching tips and other 4 channels on the Slack platform
- Monitoring and assisting in organizing Professional Development (PD) sessions at local settings
- Monitoring and editing lesson and PD session plans for the Resource Guide.
A key achievement of this period was the establishment of close cooperation with the Ministry of Education in Turkmenistan. The Ministry provided venues, logistical arrangements, and regional coordination support for Professional Development (PD) workshops. This cooperation made it possible to deliver training activities not only in Ashgabat but also in regional provinces of Turkmenistan. As a result, C5+O.N.E Ed. participants were recognized as trainers within the national teacher development system. Program materials and methodologies were introduced into existing teacher training structures, creating a foundation for long-term integration.
12 participants in Tajikistan planned and conducted an online teacher-training course facilitated by Zuhro Saidova – PA in Tajikistan, on teaching practices within communicative approach in February – March, 2026. For 60% of trainers, it was their first teacher-training experience. There were nine 2-hour sessions. The program is here. 22 EFL teachers across Central Asia and beyond (1 participant from Morocco) were certified as the course participants.
Data on the PD seminars:
# | country | # of regions involved | # of seminars run | # of participants certified |
1 | Kyrygyzstan | 6 | 29 | 531 |
2 | Kazakhstan | 12 | 72 | 1376 |

The sessions focused on communication skills in communicative classroom, classroom management with interactive teaching, language (vocabulary and grammar) interactive teaching, digital apps in TEFL, engagement techniques in teaching productive (speaking and writing) skills, SMART lesson objectives, etc.
Three Meet-up sessions were arranged:
Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) - March 1,
Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) - March 14,
Almaty (Kazakhstan) – March 28.
The goal of the sessions was to enhance EFL teaching within student-centered approach and sharing the best practices by the participants, as well as professional opportunities of the program participants within the U.S. Department of State initiatives. The C5+O.N.E. program at the American Council for International Education coordinators (Maksat Koshkarbayev – Kazakhstan, Denize Usupova - Kyrgyzstan) and lead-teachers (Aiturgan Nurdinova – Kyrgyzstan, Zhazira Karabalayeva - Kazakhstan) were invited to share the program insights in these countries for the participants to consider the program as recruiting opportunity and its objectives in their ESP teaching at high school and universities.
Program assistants were assigned to edit 38 lesson and PD seminar plans submitted for the Resource Guide on the themes related to student-centered teaching and 21st century skills. Lesson plans cover all the levels of education from primary school to higher education. 31 are recommended for technical specialist – Kara McBride’s review.
Program sustainability in Kazakhstan is being developed in partnership with the Kazakhstan National Women’s Pedagogical University. The Resource Guide as practicum will be presented to the Research Committee for their approval and embedding into the EFL teacher-training programs. Similar practices are expected at national universities with EFL teacher-training and retraining programs in other Central Asia countries.
Program sustainability in Kyrgyzstan is implemented in cooperation with the Republic Institutes of Professional Development at Ministry of Education in Kyrgyzstan and with Almazbek Toktomametov – Director of Republic Institute of PD (RIPD). The certificates issued to the Kyrgyzstan participants will be sealed and signed by the RIPD in Bishkek and recognized by the MEd for the participants to upgrade their professional portfolio.
Program sustainability in Tajikistan is being discussed with the National Institute of Professional Development in Dushanbe to embed the Resource Guide into its EFL training programs.
