Village Project Renaissance

On behalf of KazTEA T. Letyaikina an alumna of A.S. Hornby Educational Trust -2004, has gained a grant to conduct TEFL Village Project in 5 regions of Kazakhstan in 2019. The prime goal of the project is improve English language proficiency level of students in rural areas to join CLIL (content and language integrated learning) programme successfully.

To undersand what interventions and factors are in need to assist EFL teachers in rural areas successfully, the prject starts with collecting data to run needs assessment.

TESh experience in Village Project

On the 3d November Association of EFL Teachers in Shymkent (TESh) arranged pannel session and round table discussion within the framework of the 2s International Conference initiated by the Global Education Sayram (GES) team on Communication approach in teaching English.

Video greetings of Olessya Voblikova from Australia was of special interest to the round table discussion participants.

The team of VP Projects shared their trainers’ experience on topics, challenges running the project sincce 2003. Special thanks was given to Patricia Estep- Fulbright Specialist, initiator of the project in Kazakhstan and Central Asia in 2003.

Tatyana Letyaikina raised the questions and supported discussion to outline the TEFL situation and find the challenges of rural teachers at present times. There was a hot discussion on formative assessment, updated teaching resources and their availability, interactive teaching and students readinessand motivation to study English FL according to upgraded learning objectives and parents’ atitude to upgraded core curriculum.

On the basis of this discussion topics for future trainings will be outlined and materials will be developed.
