Meeting at TESh with the Professor of Literature and Fulbright Scholar

We were lucky to greet Richard C. BurkeProfessor of Literature at the College in Lynchburg , Virginia, USA; Fulbright Specialist at the Kazakh-American Free University, Ust-Kamenogorsk at TESh on December 9, 2017.

The talk with TESh members was entitled as ‘The Strange Phenomenon of American Patriotism’‘ and teachers of English FL gained information about true and commercial patriotism. First, the notion ‘patriotism’ was introduced and bits of the USA history as well as signs of this phenomenon with USA flag display on any property or at any event. It was surprising to know different attitude of Presidents to their assignments whose background involves either political or business experiences. Professor Burke vividly demonstrated these differences with some data from mass media and talks of presidents and some poll evidences. These facts and profound research of this phenomenon is of great importance for teachers since it enlarges teachers’ background knowledge in country studying as well as research experience that they would definitely share with their students.

The talk with the Professor was going on in a lovely cafe ‘ProCoffee’ where we exchanged various news related to culture, language, fiction and many more. greetings from TESh staff
